A Brief History....

How did it all start? The Southdowns MTB club was started by a very keen MTBiker, Gary Miller, in 1992 as an affiliated section of the IBM South Hants Club. The idea was to get lots of money from the IBM club to subsidize our sport. Unfortunately the SH Club perished along with IBM Havant (now Xyratex) in 1995 before we could get our hands on the loot, such is life! However, the club survived, now almost penniless, but still keen, continues on today.

When Do we Ride?

The spring, summer and autumn months see the biggest gatherings with only a few hardy souls out in the depths of winter. We ride on Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6pm with longer rides on Sunday mornings 9am. The club also has many organised events that take us further all over the country.

How fit do I need to be?

A good gauge is do you already ride regularly? if the answer is yes then, come along and see if you like the rides. Depending on the amount of people we may split into two groups and depending on who's out and what the abilities are. We usually have a long/short ride i.e. 2hrs or 1.5hrs rides can be 15-25 miles. You must wear a helmet to ride with us. Whilst we cater for beginners, someone who has never ridden before will struggle to keep up - if you have any questions just email us, we will be pleased to help.
